Should I Take Singing Lessons?

Question – I am taking singing lessons but it seems like every time I sing my voice gets shaky and it cracks a little bit. What should I do to remedy these problems?

Morgan Cryar replies – You are experiencing a very common and if I have a dime for everytime I've heard some version of this question, I'd be Bill Gates.

You are paying for lessons and NOT getting good results and without throwing stones, I have to place the responsibility with...you. You have to take full responsibility for your own voice training lessons and you must find the right vocal teacher to facilitate that training.

Choosing a singing teacher

"Well, how do you know I don't have the right teacher?" The answer is simple, because if you have chosen the right singing teacher, you wouldn't feel like you have to write to me to get this question answered.  The issues would be getting addressed right now, by your own singing teacher.
If you have the right teacher, he/she can address your vocal problems with the advantage of hearing and seeing you. This seems like it should go without saying but that is what you should expect from your singing teacher you are paying good money for.

I have good and bad news for you.  The bad news is that anyone can just call themselves a singing teacher and start charging for singing lessons regardless of whether they know what they are doing or not. Since American Idol series begun, "singing teachers" have sprung up everywhere.

But how do you know if the singing teacher you are choosing is competent?  You know what? Even if someone gets a singing teacher's degree from a university, they still may not know what they are doing.  I had lessons from a university-trained "singing coach" that almost ruined
my voice.

So, how do you ascertain that you vocal coach is competent? Well, there is only one way to find out.  You have to try their singing lessons for yourself or get a reliable referral from someone who has tried it and gotten good results.

Now for the good news. The good news is that we live in a free country where you can choose to shop around until you find a voice teacher or coach that delivers the results you want. It can of course be expensive. Each time you go to a new singing teacher, you will pay for the lessons, whether or not the lessons are effective.

Now, here is an obvious tip - Don't ever pay for a second bad lesson!!  Keep on looking until you find someone who can hand you real results.

Now, wouldn't it be nice if you could have "sample" lessons before putting your money on the table? What if singing teachers aren't so secretive and self-preserving that they would let you "try before you buy?"

Well, there is a group of singing  teachers that will guarantee their lessons from the first singing lesson.  If you go in for a singing lesson and don't see some positive movement or simply just don't like their teaching style, they will not charge you--not even for that first lesson.

Just who are these awesome teachers?  They are Brett Manning Associates.  I know these guys and they stand by their products and their teachings. If Associates Kelly Goolsby or Jesse Nemitz ever gave a singing lesson and the student was dissatisfied, they would insist that the student do not  pay anything. How's that for credibility.

Brett and Associates keep full calendars, so why would they offer such a policy? This is because they are remarkably confident in their method since none of them have had a first-timer walking out dissatisfied and also because it is just the right thing to do.

The problem is that Brett's Associates are in Nashville, Tennessee.  So except for phone and video-Skype lessons, which all of them do, you are required to be physically present in Nashville to study with a live singing teacher.

One very effective solution is their Singing Success CD program which you can have these great singing teachers coaching you in the comfort of your own home. Brett Manning even has a 6 month guarantee on his 12 CD singing lesson program. You read more about these awesome singing lessons here.
